This training will equip you to better understand and support these pupils.
Dr Phylly Pritchard and Cleo Allan will explore:
- The underlying anxiety associated with a reluctance or refusal to attend school and how this differs from truancy
- Possible risk factors which may increase the chance of pupils not attending school and/or lessons
- The impact of Covid-19 on anxious pupil’s ability to attend school
- Practical strategies and information on psychological interventions to support pupils to feel able to attend school
- Real life examples of how these strategies are applied in practice
- The importance of school belonging when supporting pupil’s to feel able to attend school
- Preventative approaches to reduce the risk of school avoidance when pupils first show signs of reluctance to attend school/lessons
This training is suitable for any members of school staff who are working with young people struggling to attend school or lessons as well as those developing their skills and knowledge in this area.
This includes SENCOs, members of SLT, class teachers, support staff and attendance officers.
